Overview
By providing therapeutic services to youth and their families, the recently implemented Community Options for Youth (COY) expands the delivery of services clients receive from CJCJ’s Detention Diversion Advocacy Program (DDAP).
COY is a behavioral health program
serving youth and families involved in the juvenile justice system in San Francisco. The program’s focus is to provide youth and their families with the mental health support they need to ensure safety and stability, life skills development, increased pro-social behaviors, and participation in education and employment. The program aims to reduce recidivism in the juvenile population and ensure youth have the support and services they need to reside in their home communities and reach their full potential. Services occur in coordination with DDAP’s intensive community-based case management and wraparound support prior to adjudication, with the goal of diverting detention, as well as post-disposition in order to aid in a youth’s reentry to his community and home environment.
COY was established with the belief that behavioral health services are most effective when offered by the primary service provider, where youth and their families are already connected. COY is an augmentation and enhancement to CJCJ’s long-standing DDAP services, expanding the juvenile justice services provided by CJCJ. COY also welcomes client referrals outside of the DDAP population. Please contact Kimo Uila if you wish to make a referral or a request for services.

Providing Services in the Community
CJCJ is committed to providing services in the community, particularly when, for a variety of reasons, clients are unable or unwilling to come into a clinic setting. Community-based service provision is utilized in order to ensure staff remain connected to clients and their families. This enables our staff to provide therapeutic support in a comfortable setting, teach life skills, ensure clients maintain their commitments in accordance with their case plans, and increase a client’s connection to the larger community. COY services may occur at a client’s home, school, or other location that is convenient, private, and accessible.
