Entitled “Kids Behind Bars: Where’s the Justice in America’s Juvenile Justice System? Covering the Juvenile Justice Reform Debate in 2012,” the symposium will take place on Monday, April 23 and Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at John Jay College (CUNY), in New York City. The event, which is supported by the Tow Foundation, will bring 25 of America’s leading juvenile justice journalists and editors together with juvenile justice practitioners, scholars, legal authorities, public officials, NGO executives and ex-juvenile offenders for candid discussions on JJ policy, data-based best practices, and current reform initiatives.
CJCJ’s Senior Research Fellow, Mike Males, will be participating in two roundtable discussions at the conference on Tuesday April 24, 2012:
~ 12:00 – 1:15 pm, entitled “Juvenile Justice Professionals Critique Media Stories & Suggest Lessons to be Learned.”
~ 1:15 – 2:30 pm, entitled “Strategy Session with John Jay/Tow Fellows about juvenile justice coverage, & Investigating and Framing Stories.”
Other invited speakers and panelists are New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Gladys Carrion, Commissioner, New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Vincent Schiraldi, Commissioner, New York City Department of Corrections and Marc Levin of the Texas Policy Foundation.
